Alice Boyd presents From The Understory at Fish Factory Arts, Penryn

  • The Fish Factory Art Space Commercial Road, Penryn TR10 8AG (map)

Alice Boyd presents her debut EP From The Understory, which explores our evolutionary journey and interconnectedness with plant life through vocal harmonies, electronics and analogue textures. The music was developed as part of Alice’s residency at the Eden Project, Cornwall – home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

Alice is joined by artists Dazey, zha and Jacob Norris, who together sing harmonies inspired by groups such as Dirty Projectors and Deep Throat Choir. The pieces will be woven together with interludes by writer Natasha Kaeda, whose storytelling will explore our relationship with the ecosystems we live in.

“Alice’s music beautifully reframe the urgency of the climate crisis into an opportunity for reconnection with nature.” – Sir Tim Smit KBE, Co-Founder of Eden Project

Ava (Jamie) Elless (they/she) is composer, researcher-designer, performer and artist from Birmingham. Her music often blends alternative and experimental notation practices with graphic design principles and queer liberation politics. She draws inspiration from medieval European music, worldwide folk traditions, ambient and drone music, natural acoustic phenomena, and sonic storytelling. Primarily a violist, keyboardist, vocalist and bassist, her debut EP ‘string music’ is due to be released in late-Spring 2023. She loves writing, lavender, her friends, looking out the window, long walks, being too silly and drinking water.

Alice Boyd and Ava will be joined by Alice Dudley, singer songwriter from Isle of Man.
