Live at The state51 Factory

Alice performs three songs from her debut EP From The Understory at The state51 Factory.

From The Understory was created as part of her artist residency at the Eden Project - the world’s largest indoor rainforest. Described as “a perfectly judged tangle of synthetic and human voices, silences, field recordings, and unearthly gurgles” (The Sonification), the songs explore our interconnectedness with the biosphere and tell the story of civilisation at a tipping point.

Alice is joined by her band Dazey, Jacob Norris and zha, whose euphoric harmonies and atmospheric instrumentals draw inspiration from groups such as Dirty Projectors and Deep Throat Choir. In the full live show, the songs are woven together by spoken word interludes by writer Natasha Kaeda, which thoughtfully navigate the entanglement of life on Earth.

So far, the music has been performed in Eden Project’s Rainforest Biome and Barbican Centre’s Conservatory, among other venues. Alice has also been featured on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio 3’s ‘Secrets of the Scottish Rainforest’.

Alice’s music beautifully reframes the urgency of the climate crisis into an opportunity for reconnection with nature
