Hunts Green Barn: Soundscapes for The Modern House

A sound portrait of a home and its landscape

Alice Boyd collaborated with The Modern House to create a new sound work inspired by Hunts Green Barn, a contemporary home set within the Oxfordshire countryside.

Spending time in and around the house, Alice recorded the surrounding landscape - from birdsong and insects to wind moving through grasses and the changing acoustics of the building itself. These recordings became the foundation for a three-part soundscape, weaving together environmental sound and ambient composition to explore the relationship between architecture, landscape and listening.

The resulting pieces - Inside the Barn, While I Walk and Red Kites Fly Over the Meadow - each offer a different perspective on the house and its surroundings, moving between its interior spaces and the wider landscape beyond.

Created in collaboration with The Modern House for a film about Hunts Green Barn, the project forms part of Alice’s ongoing practice exploring how sound can reveal the character of a place and deepen our connection to the landscapes we inhabit.
