The Nightingales • A collaboration with Alice Vincent and Camilla Greenwell
2025 | Field recordist & Musician
The Nightingales is a collaboration between writer Alice Vincent, filmmaker Camilla Greenwell and composer Alice Boyd, inspired by Alice Vincent’s book Hark: How Women Listen.
In May, the trio travelled to RSPB Highnam Woods to listen for a vanishing sound: the song of the nightingale. Returning to the same place Alice Vincent had visited during her research for Hark, the film captures the fleeting, once-in-a-moment songs of these birds, and reflects on listening as an act of attention and care.
Alice Boyd features in the film, contributing field recordings, as well as music co-written with Jacob Norris (The Favourite, with strings by Tom Penn).
Made with thanks to the RSPB, RSPB Highnam Woods, Sand and Stone Escapes and Standish Gatehouse.
The instrumental for Alice Boyd and Jacob Norris’ song ‘The Favourite’ is featured in this film. Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, YouTube and more
