Written and composed by Alice Boyd for songwriter Tom Rosenthal’s podcast Strangers on a Bench, “A Seal Called Noon” grew out of a gentle, wistful conversation with a stranger who talks about a distant seal they’ve named Noon.

The song weaves Alice’s folk-inspired songwriting with field recordings of a real seal on the Norfolk coast, picking up on some of the feelings running through the conversation - a longing for companionship, a simpler life, and someone who really understands you.

Like the podcast itself, “A Seal Called Noon” is about the small, unexpected moments of connection we find with other people - and, sometimes, with a seal in the distance.
